In this ever-changing, digital age, social proof has more than ever become a tool for businesses to grow trust with their audience.  But what exactly is social proof, and how can you leverage it to your advantage?  Let’s take a closer look!

What is Social Proof?

Social Proof is the is a phenomenon where people look to the actions and behaviors of others to guide their own decisions, especially in uncertain situations. It’s the idea that if others are finding a product or service beneficial and trustworthy, then they can feel more secure in their decision to try this new product or service. We are inherently social beings, wired to seek validation and reassurance from our peers. When we see others affirming the value or quality of a product or service, we feel more confident in our decision to engage with it. Social proof acts as a powerful form of validation, building trust and credibility around a brand.

How to use social proof to your advantage!

Now that we see the significance that social proof can play in whether your audience decides to engage with your brand, let’s discuss some forms of social proof you can use to help build that trust and credibility with your customers.

Share written customer testimonials and reviews.

By asking satisfied customers to leave or share a review, you will gain valuable content that you can share on your website, social media, and marketing channels, to build credibility with potential customers.

Share video testimonials.

Going a step further than a typed review, video reviews will feature your customer telling their story of how your product or service helped them solve their problem.  This type of testimonial can be fire for building trust.

Case Studies.

Case studies are like reviews but much longer and can be relayed over a blog post.  It can speak to a customer, their story and problem, and the success they found in using your product or service.  This can include examples of business growth, how the product freed up their time, how it helped them connect to their audience and more.

Display certifications & awards.

Showcase any relevant certifications, awards, or accolades your brand has received. These external validations serve as tangible evidence of your expertise and quality.

Highlight social media mentions.

Monitor social media for mentions, highlights, or reviews of your brand. Be sure to comment and provide positive feedback, demonstrating your focus on customer satisfaction and engagement.

Publications You’ve been Featured In.

Showcasing the big-name publications you’ve been featured in acts as excellent proof of you being an expert in your field.

Companies You’ve Collaborated With.

If you’ve collaborated with other companies, be sure to mention them on your website, socials or blogs.  This is another great way to show that companies trust you, and your customers can too.

Product ratings. 

If you have an online store, you can add product ratings as a way of showing social proof and how others have loved using your products.
